Deacon Shields was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Chicago, Ill. He served in the United States Army before moving to Austin in 1992 to study Mathematics at the University of Texas. 

Deacon began his real estate career at Ely Properties in 1994 while attending UT. In 1996, he became the broker for Ely Properties, and in 2003 he and his partners purchased Ely Properties.

Deacon has sold properties ranging from $25K to $19M, developed several office buildings, warehouses and multi-family buildings, as well as developed rural land for retail projects during his brokerage career. Deacon is currently developing several mixed use projects in Central Austin and has partnership opportunities available in these developments. Deacon is a licensed property tax consultant with Texan Tax Advisors and an expert witness in legal cases involving real estate.  He owns a portfolio of single family, retail and industrial properties throughout Central Texas.  In his spare time he enjoys running, sailing and is involved with several local charities and foundations.
